Kawau Island House featuring Kaynemaile mesh solar screening

Beautiful Sun shading for Kawau Island House

Perched above Little Vivian Bay, this contemporary residence is a striking example of Kaynemaile RE/8’s effectiveness for sun shading in coastal locations.

The award-winning project designed by Novak and Middleton needed a flexible solution for movable sun shading that could meet the harsh environmental conditions and fitted in with the modernist design aesthetic.

Kaynemaile’s custom-designed solution using RE/8 mesh created an interior/exterior threshold, giving weather protection without sacrificing the view.

The colour of the mesh was key, and the client needed something that enhanced the project’s darker, organic colour palette. Using coffee beans and the Abodo timber cladding for colour inspiration, we worked through custom colour options with the client and the architect until we landed on a golden, coffee-toned metallic.

When used externally, Kaynemaile’s RE/8 acts as a sun shading device, privacy screening and as a decorative feature element, reducing solar gain by up to 70% without sacrificing air flow.

Our mesh does not rust, and the colours are embedded throughout the lightweight material.

High performance, paired with extreme durability and sun shading, makes Kaynemaile RE/8 ideal for coastal projects.
