RISE – bold and playful with Kaynemaile kinetic mesh

When artist Matthew Mazzotta approached Kaynemaile with his vision for a larger-than-life jellyfish at San Diego International Airport we immediately saw an opportunity to evolve the concept into a dynamic, fluid form.

Kaynemaile’s specialised studio team worked with the artist at both an artistic and technical level, applying real-world sculptural experience to the challenges of scale and fluid motion. Led by founder and studio director Kayne Horsham, our collaborative process focused on how our unique architectural mesh could capture light and respond to the environment and ensure it was buildable, a task that required extensive prototyping and lighting tests at scale.

To meet the artist's vision, we developed a custom palette of translucent colours inspired by marine creatures and coastal sunsets. These colours amplify the sculpture's visual impact day and night through translucency and light play.

Lightweight and responsive, Kaynemaile architectural mesh brings movement and life to this urban art piece and ensures it doesn’t sit still. The mesh gently shifts with air currents, catches the light and creates ever-changing forms.
