World of WearableArt Up Close Exhibition Screening

For over 30 years, World of WearableArt (WOW) has been an internationally recognised design competition, attracting entries from over 40 countries each year. Designers create stunning pieces of wearable art showcased in a theatrical awards performance in Wellington, New Zealand.

In response to the cancellation of the 2020 World of WearableArt Awards competition and show due to COVID 19, an exhibition experience at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa called WOW Up Close was held in its place.

Designed by the WOW team, the exhibition showcased 38 works of wearable art in an immersive experience that translated the World of WearableArt Award Show's theatrical nature. Over the nine-week season, 38,774 people visited WOW Up Close.

Four Kaynemaile mesh screens were used as backdrops behind the garments. The screens were used to divide the exhibition space without the need for rigid wall construction. The mesh screens enveloped the garments whilst also directing the flow of visitors through to other exhibit areas. Kaynemaile's textural nature enhanced the theatricality of the garments in front.

Kaynemaile mesh is lightweight — just 3kg per square meter, meaning installation time is quick—which can dramatically save costs. Because of the lightweight nature, the screens can also be moved easily if needed.

The Kaynemaile mesh is not only an eye-catching spatial division option but is multifunctional, forming a projection screen if required, or it works beautifully with theatrical and exhibition lighting.

We are constantly striving to reduce the environmental footprint of our business. Our unique manufacturing process means we only make what we need. Our materials are fully recyclable using low-energy methods.
